This had me excited a bit until i realized the comic it was tied to was, er, not really in existence yet.

Also: polyhedral dice for tween-girl intro RPG = fail, sadly

You obviously haven't seen the pink sparkly polyhedral dice that Sam' oogles in WGS :)

Overall, I was quite impressed with the demo in terms of hitting its target market, even with its hints of tranditional gaming structure YMMV

Yeah, there was heaps to like about the demo. I should qualify my earlier comment - I was excited because I thought "ooh, someone's leveraging an existing brand with established market penetration!" but turns out that wasn't the case.

(But - forcing tweens to buy d12s? Really?)

I agree with the purchasing of dice.

As to market penetration, Channel M moves in quite different circles and apparently this thing is seeing a lot more coverage in anime circles than RPG ones. That is a positive thing IMO.

In any case, it has Sam wanted to run it at Kapcon. The first "module" Pirates of Buccaneer Hill looks awesome :)

Doing some digging, there was a Witchgirls comic (6 episodes) before this one. However, a live action movie was commissioned and script produced and it all fell through. This is a revival of that series with all new characters.

I doubt the original series was all that popular but it is clear that this is a reboot, not a brand new start.
